Nurses and Back Pain

Arlington Heights Chiropractor Dr. Kevin O'Hara D.C.

I see nurses  in my Arlington Heights Chiropractic office every week for back pain. There is a common theme among the patients I see for back pain and it's related issues. The common theme is poor lifting procedure. Nurses need to protect themselves from back injury and back strain. Lifting correctly is key. If you have a patient you need to move and you know they are to big for you, get some help. Doing it by yourself will catch up with you eventually, if it hasn't already.  It is also very important to use excellent lift posture and technique. Ever see an olympic weight lifter? They all do it the same way. Excellent form.  Keep good form.  It is too easy to slack off. But if you do, even for one patient, you are opening yourself up to problems. Often with sever consequences. Lastly, shoes. You need good shoes. It is that simple, good supportive shoes with excellent traction can save you from injury and what could be chronic back issues. Get the best shoes you can.
