Back Pain, Why Does It Come and Go?

By Dr.Kevin O'Hara

I get this question every day in my Arlington Heights Chiropractic Office. There are a hundred different reasons for back pain, but in a lot of cases the recurrent pain you suffer from is a result of your back not being properly aligned.  Your body will do it's best to hold you together for as long as it can but it can't hold on forever. Now add something that brings a little, or a lot of swelling, or sets off the inflammatory  response cycle and you have your answer.  When joint spaces gets smaller, your body wants to protect them. It does this by stiffening up the muscles close to the joint. This actually pulls the joint in closer and reduces its size further. Now add some inflammation. This also reduces the size of the joint space by adding fluid to the area.  Misaligned bones, small joints, and swelling are the recipe for your pain. If you add in things like unconditioned muscles then you are really speaking about millions of people every year. So what do I do? I align the spine, reduce the swelling and improve the over all motion of you back or neck. I know this is a very short answer to a complex question but it applies to most cases. We find it, fix it and leave it alone.

See you in the office.
